Motivational Sports Quotes – Are you a loser?
Motivational Sports Quotes
Are you a loser?
I was listening to the radio today and heard one of those motivational sports quotes that I really liked. I never heard the quote before but heard similar ones like it. I got online to see who said it. It was by Garth Stein in his book, “The Art of Racing in the Rain”; a book told from a dog’s point of view. As I read the description I thought – I have to read that book!
The quote inspired me. It really represents everything Orlando and I try to impress upon other people. As Achievement Specialists, this quote really makes its mark in ‘our world’ and we want it to make its mark in your world!
Motivational Sports Quotes are the best. Here is the one I heard on the radio–
“There is no dishonor in losing the race. There is only dishonor in not racing because you are afraid to lose.” Garth Stein (The Art of Racing in the Rain)

I really identified with the quote and really liked it. When I read the title of the book I was so intrigued and just by the title I was sold. Why? Because I, unlike most, love to run in the rain.
Running in the rain is exhilarating. You layer up with clothes to protect yourself, to keep you warm – and you don’t let the rain stop you from your goal. You go out with one goal in mind – to start and finish your run despite the hazards that the rain may bring.
Racing in the rain is great too. I participated in one Triathlon in the rain. Preparation is slightly different; the mindset is completely changed. It was one of those annual races where I wanted to beat my previous year’s time. The rain – well – that was a big obstacle.
I knew when I got back to transition after the run (it was a Reverse Sprint Triathlon – Run, Bike, Swim) that everything in transition was going to be wet. And it was. I remember trying to figure out if I should ride the bike with a tech shirt on to keep warm and to this day, I believe I made the wrong decision. I should have worn a jacket. The tech shirt only made the ride harder because as it got soaked, it got colder and colder – it was freezing! It wouldn’t have made it better if I stopped and took it off, I was freezing anyway, but I was riding and riding as fast as I could. There were three crashes due to the rain; I nearly was a fourth.
The best part of the race was seeing my wife, son, and my daughter, under umbrellas, cheering me on as I rode by 3 times on a 3-mile loop. I was cold and miserable, but knowing that my family came out and stood in the rain despite the cold and wet, inspired me more. They could have sat in the car. But they didn’t. They were in their own race so-to-speak. Had they not run ‘their race’, they would have never been able to cheer me on.
Here’s the thing. Some racers didn’t even show up because it was raining. All that training and they didn’t even race. Why? Because of the rain. How does a little bit of rain stop you from achieving your goals? It’s a metaphor of life really.
I beat my previous year’s time. It was not within the time I wanted to beat it by, but I beat it anyway. Why? Because I raced in the rain. I didn’t win, I didn’t place, I didn’t show. I did not achieve the big goal I set out to achieve – but I achieved a big goal nonetheless.
If Motivational Sports Quotes don’t get you off your couch, I don’t know what will. Lets go back to Garth Stein’s Quote:
“There is no dishonor in losing the race. There is only dishonor in not racing because you are afraid to lose.” Garth Stein (The Art of Racing in the Rain)
If you have ambitions and dreams, that is the race you need to run. There is no dishonor if you fail. There is no dishonor if you try, are defeated, and are a complete loss! Whether its relationship, financial, career, or a personal goal, there is no disgrace for losing or failing. There is only dishonor, to yourself, if you don’t race because of self-limiting beliefs and because you are afraid to fail.
It is absolutely okay to be afraid to fail. There is nothing wrong with being afraid to fail. But if being afraid is the one obstacle that stops you from achieving your goal, then, and I’ll be blunt – you will be a loser for the rest of your life!
It is sad but true. If you keep letting the fear of failure get in the way of your success, you have created the habit of always losing. But here’s the good news – you can change your life.
Do you know who has lost more times than you? It is the person who goes out to achieve success. They have failed, they have lost, yet they keep on racing and in the end, they achieve success. It is amazing how so many people stop before they even start because they feel they will lose.
Use Motivational Sports Quotes to inspire you. Use Garth Stein’s quote and make sure you race instead of being a loser. Do not dishonor yourself by not racing. Go out and, if you have to, run in the rain.
