Motivational Sports Quotes – Wayne Gretzky

Watching the NHL Playoffs this year reminds me of the glory years of the Los Angeles Kings. The greatest hockey player of all time played on the Kings and led them to the Stanley Cup Championships in the 1992-1993 season. Gretzky will be remembered for many great hockey moments, but one thing he said will remain a main-stay in motivational sports quotes history.

There are many motivational sports quotes and many motivational speakers have used this quote to represent all the things people do not do because of fear and fear of failure in their life.

The quote has more meaning than a simple hockey game.  Do you know what to do when opportunity comes knocking at your door? If you don’t, then these are the shots that you aren’t taking.

I was speaking to a 70 year old woman the other day who told me she never took risks. Her life is filled with riches, a great home, no debt, five grand children and a successful son and daughter. But she has seen opportunities come and go over and over in her life and knew, that if she took the shot, things could have been different.

Most of the time she does not dwell on the past – but she realized she never knew a good opportunity when it presented itself. She only knew of the opportunity after the fact – in hind sight, and although does not regret her choices, wishes that she took more risks.

How many shots do you miss all because you don’t take it? Probably more than what you think? Why is this?

Are you afraid of failure? Are you unprepared for success? If you are looking to change your life, if you are looking for more out of life, you have to recognize that small window of opportunity and take the shot!
