Warren Davies, of GenerallyThinking.com, put together a great article on the definition of happiness. Well, its not really ‘happiness defined’ but what drives our happiness. Here at CYM, we dive right into self improvement and motivation in order to improve your life! Well, happiness is a great motivator to improve your life!
In a previous post here at CYM I discussed motivation and what motivates you. Big rewards? Sometimes. But the biggest motivator – doing something you want to do. Read that here: “Motivation – What Motivates you”
In this post I’d like to address happiness. And yes, it is a big motivator. If you are doing what you want, generally speaking, you are happy right? We can all agree with that. But what creates your happiness as it is directly related to improve your life?
Here is Warren Davies’ formula on Happiness:
“The Happiness Formula
What your instincts tell you about how to be happier is probably wrong. Most people try to change their happiness by changing their circumstances. The logic is, by changing their life situation to one they are happier with – more money, better house, different gender, whatever – they’ll become happier because they like the new situation more.
This idea is basically misguided, although true to an extent. The happiness you experience comes from three sources; your genetics, your life circumstances, and your intentional activities, split like this: Happiness = Genetic Set Point + Life Circumstances + Intentional Activities”

I’d like to focus on 5 of his 10 because we discuss them in our CYM Podcasts and it directly relates to how to improve your life!

The first one:
1. Change your Thinking!
We aren’t making it up. Other people validate exactly what we are trying to impress upon you. Our little slogan even states it – Create Your Mind – if you won’t we will!
Change your thinking and improve your life! This is why we started the CYM website and the podcasts. It starts with your way of thinking! If you want to improve your life, you have to have a mindset that gets you going in that direction!
2. Meditation
Find your higher power – this is a core step in our “Success and Opportunity Readiness Track!” Many people do meditation differently. If you want to improve your life, do not neglect this important step! Meditation through prayer if you are religious, through yoga, Buddhism, chanting, these are all ways to happiness and to improve your life!
3. Goal Setting
CYM’s “Success and Opportunity Achievement Track” is all about setting goals! Goal setting is a great motivator. Discover what you want, that one thing you want, set your goal, make a plan, and do something every day to achieve your goal! If you are doing something positive every day it leads to happiness. If you want to improve your life, then there are goals you need to set and strive for!
4. Discover your strengths
In the “Success and Opportunity Readiness Track” we discuss assets and liabilities. “YOU, Inc.” as we say. What are your strengths and how can you minimize your liabilities by improving those weaknesses? If you want to improve your life and find happiness, discover your strengths!
5. Gratitude
It is amazing how so many people’s steps to improve their life include the attitude of gratitude. Personally, I have been around so many people who seem to be negative about everything. They lack the attitude of gratitude. Not one of them is as successful as they want to be. There is a reason right?
If you are not grateful for the things around you, how can you improve your life and how can you be happy? You are always negative.
The attitude of gratitude is one of the most important steps to happiness. It comes full circle. An attitude of gratitude leads to the change in thinking and vice versa. This circle includes meditation, goal setting, and applying your strengths that can help you improve your life!
Happiness is not a life without problems. Do not fool yourself. But it is the strength to overcome these problems as you improve your life! Buddhism teaches us that we are responsible for our own happiness and unhappiness. God teaches us that through Him everything is possible. True happiness is found deep inside, the motivation to find it is based on what you want. What makes you happy?
Discover what you want, set out to attain it, and you are on the road to happiness! The CYM podcasts teaches you step by step on how to achieve this.
