Quotes on Responsibility

Do you play the blame game?

Thanks for visiting our blog!

In my younger days, I used to honestly believe that my family was cursed.  In fact, I coined the phrase the “Ramos Curse”.  To

my surprise, everything that could go wrong would go wrong.  If I began to accumulate money, my car would need expensive repairs.  If I got a great job that company would begin to have financial problems.  If I was at a baseball game, the second after I walked away from my seat my team would hit a home run.  This went on and on in my life from the time I was a little kid.

Guess where it came from?  Check out the quotes on responsibility that were expressed in my house.  My grandmother’s favorite saying was “It it’s not one thing it’s another.”  My dad loved the phrase “When it rains it pours!”  Well they were right.  I saw one problem after another occur in my house and I believed “That’s the way it goes.”  Anybody else ever have these quotes on responsibility in their house?  (Place tongue in cheek here).

Well, one day I heard a speaker say that you become what you think about most of the time.  The man’s name was Earl Nightingale.  I began to listen to what I was thinking about and it dawned on me that I was not listening to quotes on responsibility but quotes on blameability ( I just made that up).  It was much easier to blame the “God’s of luck” on my misfortune then to take responsibility.  Do you know anybody like that?

Nowadays, I wince every time I hear somebody say “These things always happen to me.”  I want to say DUH!  You think that so that’s why it happens.  It’s as if you want something bad to happen to you.

Since I began affirming quotes of responsibility to myself I not only feel better about my life I actually have less stress.  I didn’t realize how stressful it was to constantly be looking out for the other shoe to drop.  I can remember that as good things happened to me I immediately began to seek out the bad thing.   Then POOF!  A speeding ticket.

It’s not always easy to take responsibility although it certainly helps when you realize that if you can create the life you have now (however you perceive it to be) without really trying than you can certainly create the life you do want if you actually have a plan and live with purpose.

Here are my top 5 quotes on responsibility:

  1. You may believe that you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you are responsible for what you think, because it is only at this level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think.
    — Foundation for Inner Peace: Publisher of Course in Miracles
  2. Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness and self worth.  Only you can be responsible for that.  If you can’t love and respect yourself – no one else will be able to make that happen.  Accept who you are – completely; the good and the bad – and make changes as YOU see fit – not because you think someone else wants you to be different.
    — Stacey Charter
  3. I am responsible. Although I may not be able to prevent the worst from happening, I am responsible for my attitude toward the inevitable misfortunes that darken life. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself.
    — Walter Anderson, Author of The Confidence Course: Seven Steps to Self-Fulfillment
  4. There is no such thing as can’t, only won’t. If you’re qualified, all it takes is a burning desire to accomplish, to make a change. Go forward, go backward. Whatever it takes! But you can’t blame other people or society in general. It all comes from your mind. When we do the impossible we realize we are special people.
    — Jan Ashford
  5. You control your future, your destiny.  What you think about comes about.  By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be.  Put your future in good hands – your own.
    — Mark Victor Hansen

blameability – you owe me a couple of $1,000 because I just copyrighted that word! LOL

My favorite quote, “Your success is hidden in your daily habits.”

My life totally changed because I read “The Secret” and realized that if you think the way you were thinking, leave your seat team hits homerun, you come into money and your car breaks down, or you always say ‘things like this always happens to me’ then yes, it will. The way you think is the way your life will be.

This is why I have a rule every morning to say good morning. If I can reach 10 people a day by saying good morning, then my day turns out great! It’s validation. Its how you think! Its positive and it is good. More on that here: Validation for Self Improvement.
